How to Download X Videos

   Find the video on X

   Open the post containing the video you want to save. Any public post works — from your timeline, a repost, a quote or a link somebody sent you.

   Add "ssave" before x.com in the address bar

   Edit the URL so https://x.com/username/status/123 becomes https://ssavex.com/username/status/123. Only the four letters are added; the rest of the URL stays exactly the same.

   Open the new link

   The SSAVEX page for that exact post loads automatically with the video preview and the qualities X published for it.

   Pick a quality and press download

   Choose the resolution you want from the real variants listed, press download, and the original MP4 file transfers straight to your device.

There is no app to install, no account to create and no file to import. The URL is the whole interface — which is why this guide spends most of its length on the small device differences below rather than on the method itself.

On iOS the address bar lives at the bottom of Safari, which actually makes the trick faster than on desktop. Tap the bar while viewing the post on x.com, tap it once more to place the cursor, and nudge the cursor until it sits immediately before x.com in the URL. Type ssave — iOS shows the suggested domain update as you go — then press Go.

The download lands in the Files app (Safari) or your photo roll (in-app browsers vary; if a video opens in a player instead of saving, long-press the player and choose “Download Linked File”). If Safari pre-loads a preview first, tap the download button under the video and confirm — the transfer itself supports resuming, so a flaky mobile connection will pick up where it left off.

In Chrome on Android, tap the address bar at the top of the screen. The full URL appears with the domain selected — tap once inside it to deselect, then move the cursor in front of x.com and type ssave. Press enter and the SSAVEX page for that post opens.

Downloaded files go to the standard Downloads folder and surface in the notification shade when finished; from there they move to Gallery or Photos with one tap. Chrome on Android sometimes renames the file to its URL — if you care about tidy names, the download button names every file before the transfer begins.

On desktop the trick is most visible: click the address bar, press Home (or Cmd+Left / Home on Mac), and type ssave in front of the domain — the cursor lands before https://, which is fine; SSAVEX works with or without the scheme. Press Enter and the post opens with its video ready.

Previews are full-size on the big screen: play the video first, confirm it is the right one, then pick a quality from the dropdown — every listed variant is one the post actually provides. The file saves through your browser's normal download flow with a descriptive name like ssavex_username_1234567890_720p.mp4.

X does not really have GIFs: what the platform calls a GIF is a short, silent MP4 that loops. That is good news for saving — SSAVEX downloads the original MP4, which is smaller than a real .gif file of the same length and plays everywhere. If you specifically need the .gif format for a forum or an older app, convert the MP4 afterwards with any converter; the source you get here is the best available copy.

Photos use the identical trick — same URL edit, same page, and the original resolution file downloads with one button. Gallery posts show every image in a grid with per-image downloads and a download-all option. A small set of cases end without a download, and each has a clear reason. If the post was deleted or made private, SSAVEX says exactly that — no downloader can fetch what the platform no longer serves. If a post contains no media at all (text only), there is nothing to save and the page says so. If the post is an unsupported format, such as audio-only or an external link embed, you will see a specific message for that too.

Old twitter.com links are the one case the trick cannot reach directly — paste them into the box above instead. And if a download stops halfway on mobile, just press download again: transfers resume from where they stopped instead of restarting.
