From Twitter to X: what actually changed for saving videos
In 2023 Twitter was renamed X, and the twitter.com domain gradually gave way to x.com. Old links still work — the platform redirects them — but every new share button, every embed and every address bar now shows x.com. For people saving videos, the practical change is minimal: the post URL is still organized the exact same way, a username followed by a status ID, and the video files are served exactly as before.
What did change is the quality of download sites. Most Twitter video downloaders you remember were built around copy-paste forms, captcha walls and five identical “Download” buttons of which four were ads. SSAVEX was built after the rebrand around one idea that those sites never had: the URL you are already looking at is the only input needed.
How to download a Twitter video today
Open the post on X — either through the app's share link or by tapping through from twitter.com, which forwards automatically. Once the address bar reads https://x.com/…, insert ssave before x.com and open the new URL. The video appears on SSAVEX with a preview, the list of real qualities it was published in, and a download button that transfers the actual MP4 file to your device.
On a phone, editing the URL is a two-tap move: tap the address bar, position the cursor in front of x.com, type the four letters, hit go. It is faster than switching apps to paste the link into a downloader — and nothing is sent to a server until you have seen the preview.
What about old twitter.com links?
If you have bookmarked links from the Twitter years, they fall into two groups. Links you open in a browser forward to x.com on their own, and from there the ssave trick works as described above. Links you want to process without opening first can be pasted into the box on this page: SSAVEX accepts both twitter.com and x.com forms, normalizes them to the current path and takes you directly to the media.
One small caveat from the other direction: a trick built on the letters of one domain cannot be transplanted onto another. ssave fits in front of x.com because together they spell ssavex.com — there is no equivalent wordplay for twitter.com, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. The paste box exists exactly for those leftover links.
